The image below shows the correct orientation and position in the connection of a borosilicate glass mouthpiece to the NOVA standard mouthpiece. As seen in the image, the mouthpiece tip is removed by holding the stir tool prongs with one hand and unscrewing the tip in a counterclockwise manner.

Cipher recommends soaking in hot soapy water or 91% Isopropyl Alcohol periodically to keep the mouthpiece adapter clean and free of sticky resin buildup. Especially when smoking in colder environments, resin does tend to buildup faster, which may be noticed by more restricted air flow when inhaling from the glass mouthpiece.
Depending on how often the glass mouthpiece is removed, the o-rings will eventually need to be replaced. The indication that it’s time to replace the o-rings is when you find it difficult to insert the glass mouthpiece onto the adapter. To remove the o-rings, use a sharp knife to slice the o-ring or you can use a very small flat tip object or tweezers to pry underneath the o-ring.
