A rolling paper decides how fast a joint burns, how much of the flower you taste, and whether it rolls cleanly. We stock weed rolling papers in every material and size, from single wide booklets to king size slim.

Rolling Paper Materials

  1. Hemp: moderate thickness, steady burn, easy grip, the popular default
  2. Rice: very thin, slow burn, minimal taste, hardest to roll
  3. Wood pulp: thickest, fastest burn, cheapest, most forgiving
  4. Flax: thin and smooth, a middle ground between rice and hemp

Hemp Rolling Papers

Made from hemp fibers, hemp papers sit in the middle on thickness, burn at a moderate and predictable rate, and carry a light texture that makes them easy to handle. They are also the material most often sold additive free and unbleached.ย

RAW built its reputation here; Zig Zag and OCB both run hemp lines.

Rice Rolling Papers and Ultra Thin Papers

Rice papers are the thinnest on the shelf, often 12 to 13 GSM. Very little paper means very little paper taste and a noticeably slower burn. They are also the least forgiving: delicate, prone to tearing, unhappy with moisture.ย

Elements is the best-known pure rice line.

Wood Pulp Papers and Flax

Wood pulp is the classic and most forgiving: slightly thicker, reliable, cheapest. Zig Zag's orange booklets are the reference point. Flax sits between rice and hemp, thin and smooth with more structure than pure rice.ย

Unbleached rolling papers are simply minimally processed and brown; that label does not tell you thickness, and unbleached papers are not automatically slow burning papers.

  • Hemp: easy grip, moderate burn, the safe default
  • Rice: slowest burn, cleanest taste, hardest to roll
  • Wood pulp: cheapest and most forgiving
  • Flax: thin and smooth, more structure than rice

Rolling Paper Sizes

  • Single wide is the original cigarette format at around 70mm, suiting a small solo roll.ย
  • 1 1/4 papers at roughly 78mm by 44mm are the everyday standard and the size most brands sell most of.
  • King size rolling papers run about 110mm long. They are roughly 54mm wide and hold noticeably more, which suits sharing.ย
  • King size slim keeps the 44mm width of a 1 1/4 while adding length, giving a longer joint without a wider one.
  • Paper rolls come as a continuous strip you cut to length, the only way to make something longer than king size.

Most weed rolling papers arrive as a booklet of 32 or 50 leaves, and plenty of brands sell papers and tips together.ย

Thickness, Burn Rate and Gum Line

Thickness drives everything. A heavier paper grips better and holds its shape while you roll, and it burns faster with more paper taste. Thin and ultra thin papers burn slower with a cleaner flavor and more terpenes coming through, but they tear and punish a rushed roll.

The gum strip is the part nobody thinks about until it fails. A good gum line seals on the first pass. Most quality papers use natural gum, usually acacia or arabic gum, which seals cleanly and adds nothing to the taste.

Rolling Paper Brands

  • RAW is the hemp benchmark, unbleached and additive free, with the Black line at the ultra thin end.ย
  • Elements is pure rice with acacia gum.ย
  • Zig Zag's orange papers are the wood pulp classic, and OCB runs thin virgin and slim lines.ย
  • JOB, Juicy Jay's, Afghan Hemp, Blazy Susan, Bob Marley, and Rozy all hold shelf space, and blunt wraps sit alongside them.
  • Flavored rolling papers are infused with fruit or sweet flavors, and Juicy Jay's is the name most people know.ย
  • Organic rolling papers are unbleached and made without added chemicals, usually from hemp.

Rolling Paper FAQ

What is the best rolling paper material?

Hemp for most people: good grip, burns evenly at a moderate rate, adds little taste. Rice burns slower and tastes cleaner but is harder to roll. Wood pulp is easiest to handle and fastest burning.

Do thinner papers really burn slower?

Usually, but thickness is only part of it. Moisture, packing density, and rolling technique all affect the burn. A thin paper packed badly burns worse than a thicker paper rolled well.

What is the difference between rolling papers and pre-rolled cones?

Rolling papers are flat leaves you shape yourself, by hand or with a rolling machine. Cones arrive formed and only need filling. See our pre-rolled cones to skip the rolling.
